Back in Biblical days, land was essential to a good prosperous life. A man could feed his family, feed others, make money from the sale of crops, and pass on an inheritance to his children. It was a means to provide generational wealth, not just current personal wealth. It was essentially a gift from God that was foundational for a person to have a good life, not only for himself, but his family and others.

A financial accountant has many responsibilities: preparing and reviewing financial records, identifying potential areas of opportunity and risks, and providing solutions for businesses and individuals—at the end of the day, they must ensure the numbers make sense. As Christians, God is calling us to be spiritual accountants of our lives. In this verse, Moses (the author) prays to God for wisdom to account for his time on earth. Honestly, it’s a prayer we should all pray much more frequently because time flies, life is uncertain, and God judges sin.

Lately it feels like the Triune God has gained an additional person: Father, Son, Spirit…and Therapy. The current therapeutic landscape has somehow convinced many of us that therapy has all the answers for the complexities of life. Any adversity is now toxic, disagreement becomes gaslighting, and safe spaces are the only places for humans to build their mental and emotional capacity. So this begs the question: If God’s word is timeless, what does He have to say about this new wave of thinking?
