There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
When faced with trying to solve a problem, we’ve all received advice similar to this: “God gave you common sense. Use it. ” We may have even given that same advice to someone. Afterwards we immediately start to figure out how to solve the problem on our own, using our own knowledge, reason, feelings and intuition.
God did give us a brain and the ability to reason. But what tends to happen is that we get in the habit of making decisions independently of Him. Instead of turning to Him first, we end up desperately going to Him, at the end…when everything has fallen apart. A decision may have seemed right at the time, but ended up in a disaster. Why? We are finite, God is infinite. We have limited knowledge, God has all knowledge. We don’t know what’s around the corner. God knows the end from the beginning. (Isaiah 46:9 – 10)
God never intended for us to make decisions without Him…His principles, commands and guidance by the Holy Spirit…His Lordship. That’s all part of our fellowship with Him.
If your decision making has been lacking and leading to some unpleasant consequences, there is a better way. God instructs us to trust (be bold, confident, secure and sure) in Him, and not to put weight or total dependency on our own understanding. The better way also comes with better results…a straighter and smoother path.
So if you want a better life, with better results, chose a better way, with your whole heart.
