Humility or Pride — You Decide!

Proverbs 18:12 — Before his downfall a person’s heart is proud, but humility comes before honor.

Each and every one of us wake up making decisions every single day; some more critical than others, but regardless, we all have decisions to make. Ranging from lunch plans, childcare responsibilities, deciding to fill our gas tanks now or later, and many other decisions throughout the day.

At the same time, we all recognize that each decision comes with consequences. If I decide and wait too long to fill my gas tank, there’s a chance I could run out of gas affecting many other areas of my life. The point being, we recognize that choices are often tied to consequences.

But here’s a question we should all sit with: How many of us actively think about the consequences when choosing to be humble versus prideful? 🤔

God is adamantly clear that pride comes “before” the destruction of our lives. This means there are choices that are made prior to our lives crumbling. In the book of Exodus, God gave Pharaoh numerous chances to humble himself. But, like each of us, he thought he knew better without fully realizing the consequences that were tied to the arrogant choices he was making. Which ultimately led to thousands of deaths including his own.

So we each have to ask ourselves, how will I choose today? Will I choose to humble myself or will I choose my own selfish desires? Will I choose to give people the benefit of the doubt or will I choose retaliation? Will I choose to selfishly respond with the silent treatment towards others or will I humble myself and respond with love? We all have a choice that comes with repercussions, the question is, how will you decide? Choose wisely. You never know the blessings of God that reside on the other side of choosing humility.
