Ecclesiastes 12:1 - Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come and the years draw near of which you will say, “I have no pleasure in them”
Recently I attended the funeral of one of my nephews. He was 22 years old when he passed suddenly. One of the many thoughts I had when I heard the news of his passing was, “I wonder what he missed out on by dying at such a young age. He had just graduated from college.”
Well, my perspective changed after attending his funeral. It was held at a civic center in the small town in which he grew up. The facility held 1100 people…it was packed. Young and old (mostly young) were present at the funeral, with various racial/ethnic groups represented. I thought, “How in the world could a kid from a small town impact so many people, where over a thousand people took time off and traveled to pay him respect?” Well, he lived a life where he remembered his Creator.
I knew he had a personal relationship with Christ, but I didn’t know how strong he was in sharing his faith and ministering to others. His impact was felt in the college he attended, the churches he attended, the college town, as well as on social media. He positively affected so many lives that the impact resulted in a full civic center. No one had seen anything like it.
Since we live in a world with others, we have the opportunity to build something special in our lifetime. Imagine that each day you live, you produce a brick. That brick can be used to build a positive legacy, damage yourself and others, or be thrown to the side as inconsequential. The last thing you want is to look over your life one day and come to the conclusion, “I have no pleasure in them.”
What kind of life are you living? What kind of legacy are you building? How are your daily bricks being used? If you are mindful of your Creator and determined to be obedient to His Word and Spirit, you will be amazed at what He will accomplish through you, for His glory, that will outlast you.
Remember your Creator each day of your life.
